UtilitiesDocument Viewers - Some of you may encounter difficulty with viewing documents created from a one of the programs within Microsoft Office (i.e. MS Excel). Either you do not have the Microsoft Office Suite (or one of its components) installed or you have an older version on your system. There is hope! You can access the data by downloading and installing the associated viewer for the file types noted below.

Zip Decode/Compression Programs -
Many downloads and file exchanges now are commonly packaged in zip files. For example, the McAfee Virus data files discussed below are in zip form. Zips can contain many files and apply compression to reduce their overall size. This allows for quicker downloads while also utilizing less hard drive space. These programs can usually decode several different encoding schemes such as MIME, UUE, and others. Some decoding may require an external program.
The widespread use of zip programs has made them a necessity for file transfer and archiving purposes. Many different programs offer this utility but the most popular application is WinZip. Winzip is shareware offered through Nico Mak Computing Inc. There are a number of similar freeware programs that can be found at this 32-bit freeware site.

Virus DAT File Updates - Protecting your system from viruses, worms, trojans, etc. is vital in assuring the safety and integrity of your system. New viruses are created and introduced every day. It is imperative that you update the data files for your Virus Scanner often. Do not get lulled into a false sense of security after installing a virus program. In order for that virus scanner to be effective you need to bolster it with new data frequently to fight off insidious attacks.
McAfee offers an excellent program (which is also included on the TLC Products Software CD) and generally updates their data (DAT) files monthly for free downloading. They also offer instructions on how to install these files. The updates are available for the 2.x, 3.x and 4.x Scan Engines. To find the type of Scan Engine you have installed, launch your Virus Scan program, click on Help, then select About.
